Business Accounting
Sole Trader Tax Returns
Your business and personal tax brought together in one return — with the deductions you're entitled to and a clear plan for the tax you'll owe.
Overview
How we can help
As a sole trader, your business income is reported in your individual tax return. That keeps things simple — but it also means business deductions, private use and tax instalments all need to be handled correctly in one place.
We prepare the business section of your return, review your expenses, help you set aside the right amount for tax and make sure your BAS and income tax align.

Good to Know
Key things to know
- 01
One tax return
Sole traders don't lodge a separate business return. Business income and deductions are included in your individual return, and you pay tax at individual rates.
- 02
Plan for your tax bill
No tax is withheld from business income. Once you're in the PAYG instalment system, the ATO will ask you to pay instalments during the year.
- 03
Personal services income
If most of your income is for your personal skills or effort, special rules can limit the deductions you can claim.

Do I have to pay myself super?
Sole traders aren't required to pay super for themselves, though making personal contributions may be worthwhile and can be tax-deductible in some cases.
Can I claim my car?
Yes, for the business-use portion. The method you use determines the records you need, such as a logbook.
Should I become a company instead?
It depends on your profit, risk and plans. We can compare the outcomes so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.
